Terms of Use
- Cursans helps you understand your training. It is not medical advice and not a medical device.
- You decide how you run, and you do so at your own risk. If you have a health condition or feel unwell, ask a doctor first.
- Thresholds, predictions, recovery and race plans are estimates from your own runs. They can be off: use them as a guide, not a rule.
- Your plan comes from you, your coach or your plan app. Cursans reads it and shows how your training is going.
- Your runs stay on your iPhone unless you choose to share them, for example in a report for your coach or an export (see the Privacy Policy).
- Beta testers: please keep unreleased features to yourself.
1. Who we are
Cursans is made and published by Maikel Colli, based in Belgium (“Cursans”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at dev@cursans.com.
These terms apply to the Cursans iPhone app, the Cursans data field for Garmin watches, Cursans Watch Copy for Mac and Windows, and this website. By using any of them you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use Cursans.
2. What Cursans does
Cursans reads the runs you record and the sessions in your plan, and tells you in plain words how your training is going: whether you are getting fitter, how each run went, what affects your running, and what you could race. It is a training-information tool for healthy adults.
Cursans is not medical advice and not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, prevent, monitor, treat or alleviate any disease or injury (Regulation (EU) 2017/745, Art. 2(1)). It does not replace a doctor, physiotherapist or other qualified professional. Never ignore professional advice, or wait to seek it, because of something Cursans shows.
LT1 and LT2, maximum heart rate, fitness trends, race predictions, recovery, the heat’s share of a run and race-day paces are estimates worked out from what your watch and phone record. They depend on how good the sensors are (an optical heart-rate sensor can read too high or too low), on how much data there is, and on assumptions that may not fit you. When Cursans is not sure of something, such as what kind of run a run was, it asks you. You remain responsible for how you train and race.
Cursans does not write training plans. Your plan comes from you, your coach or your plan app, and they remain responsible for it. When Cursans suggests something, such as moving a session to another day of your week, it is a suggestion for you to accept or ignore.
3. Your health and safety
- Running carries a risk of injury, illness and, rarely, serious harm. You decide what you run and how hard, and you do so at your own risk.
- See a doctor before you start or change your training if you have, or may have, a heart, lung, metabolic or other medical condition, are pregnant, are coming back from illness or injury, or take medication that affects your heart rate.
- Stop and get medical help straight away if you feel chest pain or pressure, unusual breathlessness, dizziness, faintness, palpitations, or signs of heat illness.
- Keep your attention on traffic, terrain, weather and heat. Do not look at your phone or watch where it is unsafe to do so.
- Cursans is not meant for children under 16.
4. The coach (Sans)
Answers from Sans, the in-app coach, are written on your iPhone by Apple’s on-device model, from your own numbers. Like any text written by AI, they can be incomplete or wrong. They are training information, not medical advice. Check anything important with a qualified person.
5. Beta versions
Test versions shared through Apple TestFlight are free and meant for testing. They may have errors, may lose data, and stop working when the test build expires or the beta ends. Keep your own copies of your runs: your watch, Apple Health and the services you use keep theirs, and Cursans can save a backup file. We may use the feedback you send to improve Cursans, with no obligation to you.
Keeping beta features confidential
As a tester you see features, screens and methods that are not public yet. Please keep them to yourself: do not share screenshots, recordings or descriptions of unreleased features, publicly or privately, without our written permission. This applies during the beta and for 3 years after it ends. It does not cover anything we have already made public ourselves.
6. Your data and other services
Your runs belong to you. How Cursans handles your data is set out in the Privacy Policy. Your runs are kept on your iPhone, except what you choose to share, such as a report for your coach or an export. Please keep your own backups: we cannot recover data deleted from your phone.
Apple Health, Garmin, Polar, COROS, TrainingPeaks, Runna, Strava (archive import) and the other services you connect have their own terms, which apply when you use them. Cursans is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
7. Fair use
You may use Cursans for your own training, and coaches may use the reports their athletes send them. Please do not copy, resell, reverse-engineer or misuse the app, use it to break the law or anyone’s rights, scrape or copy the website and guide, or use Cursans, or what it shows, to build a competing product.
The app, the website, the guide, their design and texts, and the methods behind them are the work of Maikel Colli and are protected by copyright and as trade secrets. For the iPhone app, Apple’s standard licence for App Store apps also applies. These terms are between you and Cursans, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its support.
8. Liability
Cursans is provided “as is”. We work hard to make it accurate and reliable, but we cannot promise it is free of errors or always available.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for decisions you make about your training, racing or health. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Cursans in the 12 months before the claim (nothing, for a free beta).
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Nothing here affects your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
9. Changes and ending
We may update these terms as Cursans changes. We will first update this page and its date, and point out significant changes in the app. You can stop using Cursans at any time by deleting the app. We may end a beta or withdraw a version of the app.
10. Applicable law
These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you live in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country’s mandatory consumer law and may bring a claim in its courts. Otherwise the courts of Belgium have jurisdiction.
